The Prayers of Saint Bridget
To Be Recited for 12 Years
These prayers and their related promises are popularly attributed to St. Bridget. The continuous positive reports from readers about spiritual benefits received after reciting these prayers confirm their validity.
Jesus' Promises for Those Who Recite These Prayers for 12 Years
Jesus has made wonderful promises to souls who will recite these Prayers for 12 years. In particular, Jesus promises:
- The soul who recites them will not go to Purgatory
- The soul who recites them will be accepted among the martyrs as though they had shed their blood for the faith
- The soul who recites them can choose three other persons whom Jesus will maintain in a state of grace sufficient to become holy
- No one from the four generations following the soul who recites them will be damned
- The soul who recites them will be made aware of their death one month before
Important Notes
Someone might think that they could end their earthly life before completing the 12 years of prayers. In this case Jesus has assured that He would consider them valid as if they had completed them.
If instead one should miss one or more days for some reason, it is possible to make up the missing prayers later.
It is obvious that those who take on this commitment must not think that these prayers are an automatic pass to Paradise and that they can therefore continue to live according to their own desires.
We know that we must live with God in complete coherence and sincerity not only when reciting these prayers, but throughout our entire life.
However, I am certain that if a person receives the grace to persevere for 12 years in this type of prayer, they surely already live in a good degree of communion with Jesus and Mary and know how they should behave.
Initial Prayer
O Jesus, I desire to address this prayer to the Father, uniting myself with the love with which You sanctified it in Your Heart.
Carry it from my lips to Your Heart. Improve and complete it in a perfect way so that I may bring to the Most Holy Trinity all the honor and joy that You gave to Her when You raised this prayer on earth; may the honor and joy flow upon Your sacred Humanity for the glorification of Your most painful Wounds and the most precious Blood that flowed from them.
First Prayer - The Circumcision of Jesus
Eternal Father, through the most pure hands of Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the first wounds, the first pains and the first blood that He shed in expiation of my sins and those of all young people, as protection against the first mortal sin, particularly of my blood relatives.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
Second Prayer - The Sufferings of Jesus on the Mount of Olives
Eternal Father, through the most pure hands of Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the terrible sufferings of Jesus' Heart on the Mount of Olives and I offer You every drop of His bloody sweat in expiation of all my sins of the heart and all those of humanity, as protection against such sins and for the spread of divine and fraternal love.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
Third Prayer - The Scourging of Jesus
Eternal Father, through the most pure hands of Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the countless blows, the atrocious pains and the precious Blood of the scourging in expiation of all my sins of the flesh and all those of humanity, as protection against them and for the safeguarding of innocence, particularly among my blood relatives.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
Fourth Prayer - The Crowning with Thorns of Jesus
Eternal Father, through the most pure hands of Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the wounds, the pains and the precious Blood that flowed from Jesus' Head when He was crowned with thorns, in expiation of my sins of the spirit and those of all humanity, as protection against them and for the establishment of God's Kingdom on earth.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
Fifth Prayer - The Carrying of the Cross by Jesus
Eternal Father, through the most pure hands of Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the sufferings endured by Jesus along the ascent to Mount Calvary and, in particular, the holy Wound of His shoulder and the precious Blood that flowed from it, in expiation of my and others' sins of rebellion against the cross, of rejection of Your holy designs and of every other sin of the tongue, as protection against them and for an authentic love of the holy Cross.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
Sixth Prayer - The Crucifixion of Jesus
Eternal Father, through the most pure hands of Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You Your Son nailed to the Cross and raised upon it, His wounds in His hands and feet and the precious Blood that flowed from them for us, His terrible torments of Body and Spirit, His precious death and its unbloody renewal in all the holy Masses celebrated on Earth.
I offer all this in expiation of all failures made to vows and rules in religious Orders, in reparation for all my sins and those of others, for the sick and the dying, for priests and for lay people, for the Holy Father's intentions regarding the reconstruction of the Christian family, the strengthening of Faith, our Country, unity in Christ among nations and within His Church, and for the Diaspora.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
Note: "Diaspora" refers to those who have left the Church. Original meaning: the dispersion of the Jewish people after the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Seventh Prayer - The Wound in Jesus' Side
Eternal Father, accept, for the needs of the holy Church and in expiation of the sins of all humanity, the most precious Water and Blood that flowed from the wound inflicted on the Divine Heart of Jesus and the infinite merits that they pour forth. We beseech You, be good and merciful toward us!
Blood of Christ, last precious content of Jesus' sacred Heart, purify me and purify all brothers from every fault!
Water of Christ, free me from every punishment merited for my sins and extinguish the flames of Purgatory for me and for all suffering souls. Amen.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
Angel of God (for our Guardian Angel)
Glory be to the Father (for all those who spread this prayer)
Closing Note
I have taken the liberty of adding to Saint Bridget's text these two small final prayers (the Angel of God and the Glory be to the Father), because I believe that each of us truly needs the help of our Guardian Angel to complete these 12 years of prayers and stop the attempts at sabotage that satan will try to accomplish. Moreover, it seems equally right and honest to remember those who have been faithful instruments of the Holy Spirit in spreading this devotion and putting us in the condition to be able to obtain Jesus' five promises.
